Summary

We started the day by packing up and leaving the hostel situation, heading towards the mountains after turning onto a very bumpy gravel path.... Someone stopped to tell us that the road got pretty bad up ahead and we got a little nervous because they said there was construction, but it turns out trucks were just smoothing over the surface and we were able to make some good progress on the freshly graded road. We ran into the Brits, Dave, Collin, and Rob, who had slept behind the bar the night before and were also heading into Breckenridge/Frisco. We then hit a small bit of pavement before turning by Como, CO and going through. We hoped there would be a little general store, but there was absolutely nothing in “town”. We then started climbing up the pass and got a little turned around with our hammerhead, but it turns out there were two ways to get to the top and so we just followed the Brits and chugged along for a while. A few sections were pretty steep, but not too crazy. There was an empty cabin at the top of the climb that attracted some hikers and lots of tourists taking pictures. We hung out for a while eating our snacks and talking to Collin while they waited for Rob who was actually finishing in Frisco. He had done the first section previously and was coming back to finish for good. We started our descent down and quickly passed some mountain bikers who had just ridden up and down, and it was quite a twisty descent but smooth surfaces all the way. We were eventually spit out onto smooth pavement and got to enjoy a screaming descent down into Breckenridge. We were able to fly through Breck, even though it was very busy, and met up with the bike path that took us the last eight or so miles to Frisco. It felt like ages before we spotted Dylan Lake, but the bike path was so pretty we didn’t mind. We eventually linked up behind downtown on the copper side and rode through some beautiful neighborhoods before hitting the main street. We stopped at a coffee shop before heading to Amelia‘s house because we were starving! We hung out there for a while and talked to some other travelers before the final mile or so to Amelia’s house which is on the shore of the lake. We shuttled our stuff up and down the stairs, making sure to put it all in a big pile in the middle of the floor so it wouldn’t get lost or forgotten. We then biked to Safeway, even though we should’ve walked because it’s pretty close and meant one of us was stuck outside watching bikes. We of course also went to Starbucks again to get our second soup of the day. Then we lugged it all back to Amelia‘s, which featured a valiant effort of trying really hard not to spill my coffee which was perched precariously in my bike bottle holder. We then ate a good chunk of a tub of ice cream while catching up with folks from home. After a dinner consisting of salad and pizza we polished off the ice cream. The rest of the evening was consumed by laundry and one of the best showers we’d had in a while. We also tried to get her Xbox to play some Sims 4 unsuccessfully so we decided to watch some TV and we hung out for a little bit before calling it a night.
